W.Va. finally finds itself on top with betting—The Journal

Time is almost up for a little-known law called the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) that’s been putting otherwise law-abiding citizens in conflict with federal law for placing friendly wagers on sports since 1992. Because the power to authorize lotteries or other gaming activities within each state’s borders resides with the states, the United States Supreme Court is expected to overturn PASPA as early as this spring, and, when they rule, West Virginia is “all in” due to the passage of the West Virginia Lottery Sports Wagering Act-legislation I sponsored this session that passed the Senate 25-9 and the House 77-22.
