An Economic Impact of More Than $1 Billion Annually
West Virginia’s gaming resorts offer fun and excitement along with exceptional dining and lodging experiences. More importantly, we come together as one of the state’s critical economic pillars, generating revenue, augmenting the state’s eclectic tourism menu, and supporting an array of programs and projects throughout West Virginia.
Without the gaming industry, the state would face greater challenges and daunting odds. That means supporting the industry is a sure bet when it comes to West Virginia’s future.
In 2016, West Virginia’s four casino resorts exceeded $537 million in sales – more than half of the state’s Lottery revenue. With more than 43 percent of Lottery revenue distributed to the State of West Virginia, in addition to a variety of fees and contributions, the gaming resorts contributed more than $350 million to a variety of essential programs — including support for senior citizens, infrastructure, jobs, education, and tourism. In 2016 alone, $39 million went to senior citizen programs, $21 million went to infrastructure, $42 million supported state education, and the gaming and racing industry contributed more than $29 million to tourism, with gaming as the sixth most-popular activity for tourists in the state.
From housekeeping for senior citizens, to PROMISE Scholarships, to road repair, to attracting out-of-state tourism dollars, gaming revenue is aiding West Virginia and its people in every way.
